Recently two by HEXAGOne Services supplied Liebherr 355 Litronic HC-L16/32 luffing-jib cranes were erected in the Central Business District in Paris.
HEXAGOne Services is a member of the Van der Spek Group and rents out Liebherr top slewing tower cranes in France.
Both Liebherr luffing-jib cranes are rented by contractor Besix for the construction of "Carpe Diem", a 162 meters high tower in the La Defense business district. This by architect Robert AM Stern and SRA Architects designed building will be realized for the British insurance giant Aviva.
The building consists almost entirely of glass and has two vertical and two sloping facades. The building will include offices, an auditorium and retail space located on 35 floors with a total area of 47,000 sqm.
The total construction time will be over 2½ years. The cranes will determine the skyline in central Paris until the end of 2012.
One of the two Liebherr 355 HC-L16/32 Litronic cranes is mounted on foundation anchors and will be climbing outside the building. The other Liebherr luffing-jib crane is mounted in the building and will be "hanging in the building", resting on floors, and climb inside the building. A building method rarely applied in Western Europe.
